Why choose CareerFoundry?

Human-centric learning: the crucial difference between going through the motions vs. succeeding at a UI bootcamp.

Our curriculum team continually optimizes the course based on student feedback and in-depth research. This approach, together with our Mentor and Tutor model, ensures a highly personalized learning experience—tailored to your specific career goals.

Human-centric learning

Mentors and Tutors

At CareerFoundry, the principles of UX design permeate everything we do.

Our aim is to become the most student-centric educational company on the planet. To achieve this, we strive to innovate within the field of edtech while remaining hyper-responsive to your feedback.

The way we approach mentorship is a perfect example of this. When we started out back in 2014, our mentorship model was very similar to that of other online bootcamps and academies — 1 mentor to 1 student. We quickly realised, however, that this simply wasn’t enough.

Our students needed a mixture of quick, regular feedback on their smaller exercise submissions and more detailed, in-depth feedback on their significant portfolio pieces. To accommodate our students’ needs, we split the role into two: the Mentor and the Tutor.

So what’s the difference?

A Mentor is a Senior UI Designer with over 5 years’ experience. Your Mentor will conduct a video review of each portfolio piece you submit. Portfolio pieces go towards your professional UI portfolio, so this feedback is invaluable. You are entitled to unlimited calls with your Mentor.

A Tutor is a course expert who is there to answer your questions on a day-to-day basis, and provide actionable feedback on your Tasks within 24 hours.

This dual approach transformed our students’ results, and we haven’t looked back since.

Meet a Mentor

"I am a freelance graphic designer specializing in UI Design and my experience over the last 18 years includes creating and pitching digital RFPs in the publishing industry at digital ventures Yahoo!, outdoor advertising business Primesight, and more recently The London Evening Standard and The Independent.

My experience in the advertising industry has taught me to think creatively across print, digital, outdoor and radio so that audiences visually understand brands and engage with them effectively. I really love getting stuck into a design brief and have a particular fondness for typographic design and color application and am always up for a good crit. session!"

Mentor Advisory Board

Our Mentors receive comprehensive onboarding and coaching on how to mentor. Students are also encouraged to give regular feedback on their Mentors and Tutors throughout the course. This combination of feedback and coaching helps us to continually improve the quality of our mentoring. That’s why our UI Mentors are rated 4.9/5 from over 4000 individual student reviews.

Job preparation and coaching

The Job Preparation course is included for free with your UI course and has been designed to help you with all aspects of finding a new job. Once you’ve opted into the Job Preparation module, you’ll be assigned a Career Specialist. They will evaluate your job applications, help you strategize your job search, provide further advice on interview preparation, and help you to refine your LinkedIn profile and networking strategy.

The Job Prep course and Career Specialist will help you with:

  • Developing a convincing narrative about your career change
  • Building a resumé and refining your portfolio to reflect your new skills
  • How to talk about CareerFoundry
  • How to optimize your LinkedIn profile
  • How to search for relevant jobs
  • How to write cover letters
  • How to network
  • How to plan for professional development

Even once you’ve found a job, the Career Services Team is happy to provide you with support throughout your transition to your new career.

Curriculum

Our UI Design Course was created following extensive research into the job market and an in-depth survey of industry professionals. The course is structured around the key skills you will need to succeed as a UI designer.

Rather than relying on third-party content, our curriculum is created exclusively in-house. We have a dedicated Curriculum Team working in collaboration with leading UI designers who have experience from tech giants like Apple and Hewlett-Packard. Finally, the course is structured by instructional designers from Harvard and Berkeley (also part of our in-house team) to ensure the best possible learning experience.

The course is constantly updated to ensure it teaches the most relevant skills that employers are looking for.

Flexibility with accountability

Pacing

We designed the course to be flexible and accommodate different schedules. It typically takes students 6 months to complete the course at a pace of 15 hours per week, or 3 months at a pace of 30 hours per week. Of course, you can do anything in between—or even try to progress faster. The course is entirely online and there are no fixed times when you have to be present, so you can plan the time you dedicate to your course around other commitments—whether that be looking after your kids, going to your day job, or catching up with friends and family.

Support

With your four-person team supporting you and our active UI community of fellow students and graduates, you’ll never feel alone or stuck on the course. Your Mentor, Tutor, and Student Advisor will encourage you to submit exercises consistently so that you stay on track and celebrate every step you take towards becoming a UI designer.

Francis Pujols, UI Design Course alumni

“After finishing the course, the next step was to start applying for new jobs. Polishing the portfolio is the last task of the course, so it was ready to be presented to recruiters. Thanks to the CareerFoundry community, I got a job in about one month - especially thanks to Danielle Sander, who helped me a lot in the process, giving me extra advice.”
