iOS Swift Senior Mentor (m/f)

We created CareerFoundry to help others build their careers while maintaining personal freedom and flexibility. Our mentor-driven learning platform is setting the standard for globally accessible online education. Through our online programs, expert mentors bring complete beginners up to employable standards in technology.

We are looking for experienced and passionate iOS developers all over the world to join our mentor community and help define the next generation of tech talent by educating and empowering students across the globe.

A young, well funded company, CareerFoundry opened its digital doors in 2014 with a mission of providing quality education for careers in the tech community. Since then, several hundred students have come to us from over 50 countries, and we currently have over 500 active students from across the globe working to kickstart their new careers.

Our global pool of over 100 mentors has grown to include freelancers, entrepreneurs, consultants, and agency directors who passionately guide, motivate, and empower our students to create new careers in the tech industry.

Mentoring is more than teaching. It is inspiring newcomers to create, develop, and increase their professional value. With years of professional, in-field experience, mentors provide guidance and encouragement to their students each step of the way, from writing their first line of code to polishing their first professional iOS/Swift portfolio.

Your Mission

CareerFoundry is an online, mentored training platform in iOS Swift Development for people who have accepted the challenge of becoming an iOS developer. Our aim is to take complete beginners to the level of a junior iOS Swift developer in 6 months.

Our iOS Swift Development course starts off by describing the iOS ecosystem, and how it compares to other mobile ecosystems, as well as other fundamental programming concepts such as variables and logic, and object oriented programming. Students will then use that foundation to build and complete several apps throughout the course, including basic apps like a to-do list and a calculator. They will then add advanced features such as sharing an app’s content to social networks and other apps. From there, students will learn how to submit apps to the app store and market them by incorporating analytics.

CareerFoundry Senior Mentors are connected to their students via the CareerFoundry platform. As a mentor, you'll provide feedback and constructive criticism on your students' projects, and provide students with the guidance they need to improve their work through code reviews and industry insights.
When students are lacking in understanding in a certain key area, you’re there to encourage them, and provide supplemental tips and tricks to help them power through any roadblocks they encounter on their path to becoming professional web developers. You will as well spend some time providing career advice to your student through Skype Calls.

As a Senior Mentor you will pair up with and support junior mentors who will assist the students in going through the intermediate exercises of the course while you will review the major achievements as well as focussing on Career and Industry best practice advice.
Mentoring is part-time, and very flexible. You will work with around 30 students, review their achievements and be available during the week to take calls with them. Through a call scheduling tool you can fit your mentoring into your schedule, rather than fit your schedule around mentoring. On average, a mentor will spend between 4 and 5 hours of work per week.

To help guide CareerFoundry students, mentors have at their disposal the entire CF course curriculum, course content, task requirements, and lesson specific guiding questions for delving deeper into the students’ understanding of core concepts. We also provide a Mentor Manual which details every step of the mentoring process, and contains an in depth appendix full of mentoring tools, tips, and best practices to facilitate the mentoring experience.

You will be also our mentors by connecting students to the entire CF staff and mentoring community via Slack, where they can always reach out with questions, comments, thoughts, and feedback on how we can make mentoring even more fulfilling and rewarding for mentors and students.

Mentors should have 5 years of professional iOS development experience, as well as an outgoing personality and a passion for helping others. Any previous teaching or mentoring experience is a definite plus.
