Matthew Errington's Portfolio Project
Throughout the Data Analytics Program, students are asked to imagine themselves as analysts for various imaginary companies. Below is a selection of analyses that form Data Analytics Program student Matthew’s portfolio.
Hi Matthew! What inspired you to make a career change into data analytics?
Early in the COVID-lockdown, I was furloughed from my job for several months. I wanted to make the most of my time away from work by learning some new, marketable skills. I’ve always loved analyzing information, creating visualizations, telling stories, and presenting—so data analytics felt like a great fit.
What are you enjoying most about the program?
I enjoyed learning something new every week! I especially enjoyed learning about data visualization and creating interactive visualizations on Tableau. My mentor and tutor were phenomenal, and it was a joy to get to know them and the CareerFoundry team over the year.
With regards to your new skills, what are your hopes for the future?
I hope to work as a data analyst for an international firm where I can create Tableau visualizations and dashboards to support the work of multiple departments. I love to help others, and creating clear, useful dashboards and presenting relevant insights would be extraordinary.
Talk us through this portfolio project.
Each project was unique and challenged me in different ways. Querying data in SQL, visualizing data in Excel, Tableau and Data Studio, and running statistical analysis in python…I was never bored! I enjoyed running analysis on a variety of topics—tourism, healthcare, marketing, and sales.
