It\u2019s also more likely that you\u2019ll be at your desktop or laptop when using it to its maximum capability.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3 id=\"familiarize-yourself\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Step 2: Familiarize yourself with ChatGPT\u2019s features and settings<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Take a moment to acquaint yourself with the interface. The box at the bottom is the input field for your queries. The area just above this is where the AI&#8217;s responses will appear.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If you\u2019re on a desktop browser, each conversation that you have with ChatGPT is automatically saved and appears in the left-hand panel. Although this output isn\u2019t perfect\u2014it could arguably use clearer facts\u2014it\u2019s an improvement on the first version.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">You could go even further, with prompts like \u201cpitch this for a slightly older age group\u201d, or, \u201cexpand on each section to offer more factual detail.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Whatever you\u2019re using ChatGPT for, the main thing is to <\/span><b>look beyond the first output it provides.<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Consider the style and tone, metaphors, or creative elements you\u2019d like to incorporate and instruct the AI to incorporate these. And always think about your audience.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Whether you&#8217;re discussing scientific processes, historical events, or any other topic, you can add a personalized touch to the AI&#8217;s responses, tailoring its output to meet your needs.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3 id=\"token-limits\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Step 6: Be mindful of token limits<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Some behind-the-scenes insight that\u2019s important to note: ChatGPT works by breaking down prompts and responses into short chunks known as tokens. A token might be one word or even just a single character.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Why is this important? Well, ChatGPT has a limit on how many of these tokens it can handle in one go. It is currently set at 4,096 tokens, and both the input prompt and generated output use up tokens.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">As you chat with the tool, keep an eye on the length of your conversation. This can be a pain, but we\u2019ll look at tips for how to get around this in a later section.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3 id=\"fact-checking\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Step 7: Fact and sense-checking<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">As you engage with ChatGPT\u2014especially if you\u2019re dealing with factual information rather than, let\u2019s say, creative outputs\u2014always take time to manually fact- and sense-check its output. But if you\u2019ve actually seen the movie, you\u2019ll know that there is only one survivor (two if you count the cat, but ChatGPT didn\u2019t even get that right!).<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">While this example relies on a misleading input, hallucinations can pop up unexpectedly at any time, and they\u2019re not always easy to spot.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Math is another area where the tool often falls down. As such, <\/span><b>always verify the information ChatGPT provides before using it in any official capacity<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. We\u2019d say it\u2019s best to use ChatGPT as a productivity tool that can help you talk about topics you\u2019re already knowledgeable about, saving you time with drafting content but also allowing you to quickly spot any obvious errors.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>The paid version of ChatGPT, which can browse the internet, references the facts it provides with live links to sources.<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> That\u2019s not to say that the source material is always accurate, either. But it\u2019s better than nothing!<\/span><\/p>\n<h3 id=\"tailor-chatgpt\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Step 8: Tailor ChatGPT to your use case<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Now that we\u2019ve covered the general steps for how to use ChatGPT, let\u2019s briefly explore how you can tailor the tool to specific use cases.<\/span><\/p>\n<h4><strong>How to use ChatGPT for digital marketing<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">While it won\u2019t run your entire operation (at least not yet!) here\u2019s how to use ChatGPT to streamline some of your digital marketing tasks:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Generate ideas: <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Simply input your area of marketing, such as the product or service you\u2019re promoting, along with a short customer profile, and ChatGPT will offer fresh ideas for blog posts, social media content, or email marketing campaigns.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Copywriting assistance:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Once you\u2019ve fleshed out some ideas, use ChatGPT to draft the initial written copy for ads or promotions.
