During the CareerFoundry Full-Stack Web Development Program, you’ll build out a job-ready portfolio.

Below is a breakdown of graduate Madison’s chat app portfolio project. If you’d like to visit her full portfolio, head over to her website.

Madison completed our Full-Stack Web Development Program in May 2021 and has now landed her first job in the field, working full time as a software engineer.

What inspired you to make a career change into this field?

I had always been interested in learning how to code and simply never had the time or resources.

When lockdown hit due to the Covid-19 pandemic, I was fortunate enough to be in a position to take up a new skill and I decided to finally give coding a shot. It turned out to be something I really enjoy and am now able to make my career!

What did you enjoy most about the CareerFoundry Web Development Program?

I really loved getting to work with both my mentor and tutor. The guidance they provided was absolutely invaluable and they were always very encouraging.

Gaining insight into the industry from two professionals was incredibly beneficial, especially as an absolute newbie to the tech world.

What did you enjoy about creating your CareerFoundry portfolio project?

I loved getting to work on a native mobile application. Using emulators and simulators on my computer was really cool, and being able to actually download an app I had made entirely on my own felt like a huge achievement.

The responsiveness of mobile applications make them really enjoyable to program, and learning how each element of the app integrates with the others was like putting together a unique puzzle.

With regards to your new career, what are your hopes for the future?

As a junior software engineer, I am currently seeking to learn and absorb as much information as I can!

Being surrounded by so many awesome engineers provides a fantastic environment for expanding and sharpening my skillset. I hope to grow my skills and advance to a senior engineering position in the future.
