What do you need to take the UX Design Course with a Bildungsgutschein?

What you need:

You may be eligible for a Bildungsgutschein (training voucher from the Agentur für Arbeit) if you are currently unemployed or facing the possibility of unemployment. You'll also need:

Proof of residency in Germany

The Bildungsgutschein program is only available for German residents who are in possession of their Anmeldebescheinigung (proof that you are registered and living in Germany).

Time to dedicate weekly to the course

You'll need to dedicate 20 hours per week if you are doing the course part-time, or 40 hours per week if you are doing the course full-time.

An interest in UX design

If you are already reading books and blog posts about UX design, that’s a great sign! If you are unsure about whether UX design is really for you, you can find out in the following ways:

Written and spoken English skills at a level B1.2 or higher

A computer (Windows, Mac, or Linux) with a webcam and microphone, and an internet connection

What you don’t need:

A background in design or tech

This program is designed to take you from beginner to job-ready—regardless of your background. And now more than ever, employers see bootcamp graduates as excellent job candidates. A 2021 study by Career Karma found that companies as respected as Amazon, Google, Facebook, and Microsoft are some of the largest employers of bootcamp graduates. The same study revealed that, in 2020, those same companies hired up to 120% more bootcamps graduates than they did in 2019!

Unlimited free time

You can study part-time at a pace of 20 hours per week to finish the course in 10.3 months. You can also complete the course in 5.3 months by committing 40 hours per week.

To learn all on your own

You can enjoy the flexibility of online learning with the accountability and one-on-one attention traditionally associated with brick-and-mortar institutions. Much like a college professor might inspire you to pursue a career in a certain field, your mentor, tutor, career specialist, and student advisor will keep you motivated and on track.

To lose your unemployment benefits

While taking the UX Design Program with a Bildungsgutschein, you are still entitled to receive your unemployment benefits.

1.    Is CareerFoundry entitled to offer courses with a Bildungsgutschein?
All providers who wish to offer courses with an educational voucher (Bildungsgutschein) on behalf of the Agentur für Arbeit (employment agency) must first undergo a rigorous certification process in order to check the quality of the courses offered. Only then are they included in the Agentur für Arbeit's official list of course providers (Kursnet). CareerFoundry has successfully completed this process in accordance with the guidelines set out by AZAV (Akkreditierungs- und Zulassungsverordnung Arbeitsförderung - Accreditation and Licensing Regulation for Employment Promotion), and, as a TÜV-certified educational provider, is entitled to accept educational vouchers in accordance with AZAV. If you would like to view or download our official certificates, you can do so by clicking on the TÜV logo on this page.
2.    What are the differences between the courses for private customers and students with a Bildungsgutschein?
In terms of quality, there is no difference between the courses offered to private customers and the courses offered to students with a Bildungsgutschein. However, the UX Design Course offered via the Agentur für Arbeit does not include the specialization courses (UI for UX Designers and Voice User Interface Design) due to time constraints. Students with a Bildungsgutschein tend to take the course on a full-time basis (40 hours per week) and have less flexibility in terms of time, as online attendance is compulsory. Please consider that there is also no money-back guarantee for students with an educational voucher.
3.    How does the online program actually work?
All CareerFoundry courses are completely online. Students can access the course content from the first day of the course via their personal account. The course content mainly consists of written material that is broken down into individual Achievements. Each Achievement is made up of exercises which must be completed and submitted via the CareerFoundry platform to be reviewed and approved by the assigned Tutor. Although the curriculum may feature some videos, it's important to note that the course is not delivered via live webinar, and there are no virtual lessons to attend. The course is considered complete once the student has completed and submitted all exercises via the platform and had them approved by the Tutor and Mentor. There is no final exam. Upon successful course completion, the student can download their certificate via their user account. At the start of the course, the student will be assigned both a dedicated Tutor and a Mentor. All communication with the Tutor and Mentor takes place via the platform. Tutors are responsible for answering any questions about the course content and for reviewing exercises submitted by the student. They will assess the exercises and provide feedback. Mentors are industry experts, responsible for providing feedback at the end of each Achievement. Students are also entitled to a certain number of Skype calls with their Mentor in order to receive personalized, one-to-one feedback. Students are also supported by the Student Advisor Team. Student Advisors are there to answer any questions the student might have, and can be contacted via the platform. As part of a huge online community, students also have the opportunity to share their experience with other students and to organize and take part in local meetups. Around halfway through the course (51% completion), students will also have access to a free Job Preparation Course, as well as to a dedicated Career Specialist. You can read more here: careerfoundry.com/en/how-it-works/
4.    How can I get a Bildungsgutschein?
In order to receive a Bildungsgutschein, you need to make an appointment with your local Agentur für Arbeit / Job Center so that they can check whether you meet all the necessary requirements. You will be assigned a contact person who will check whether or not you are eligible for a Bildungsgutschein. You can find your local Agentur für Arbeit via a quick Google search. Simply type in your city and “Agentur für Arbeit”.
5.    How do I know if I am eligible for a Bildungsgutschein?
CareerFoundry cannot legally advise on eligibility. You need to approach your nearest Agentur für Arbeit / Job Center in order to discuss your personal case with someone from that institution. They will tell you if you meet the criteria for a Bildungsgutschein: arbeitsagentur.de/karriere-und-weiterbildung/foerderung-berufliche-weiterbildung
6.    Do you have a Maßnahmennummer (course number) you can provide me with?
The official course numbers for our certified courses are: UX Design Course, full-time (5.2 months): 922 / 371 / 2022, valid from 12.09.2022 - 03.01.2026; UX Design Course, part-time (10.6 months): 962 / 654 / 2021, valid from 13.09.2021 - 03.06.2025
7.    Where and when am I supposed to work on the course?
The courses at CareerFoundry are completely online. Students are supposed to work 40 hours (full-time option) and submit 3 tasks per week, or 20 hours (part-time option) and submit 1 to 2 tasks per week. It's important to consider the course as a full-time (or part-time) job and to work regularly on the course, since online attendance is compulsory. We encourage participants to follow a regular working schedule from Monday to Friday between 8:30 and 18:30. CareerFoundry checks the student’s progress on the course daily, and we are obliged to keep the Agentur für Arbeit / Job Center informed as part of our reporting duty.
8.    What happens if I don’t work on the course or log into the platform on a regular basis?
Online attendance is compulsory throughout the course. In the case of frequent unexcused absence or insufficient course progress, the course may be terminated. As a result, the student's unemployment benefits may be reduced or stopped completely by the Agentur für Arbeit / Job Center. The student may also be responsible for covering the cost of the course themselves.
9.    How does the collaboration with the Agentur für Arbeit work?
As part of our cooperation with the Agentur für Arbeit / Job Center, we are legally obliged to document the presence and progress of all students on an ongoing basis, and to contact the relevant AfA contact person if the student is absent or falls behind. We regularly check whether students are fulfilling their contractual obligations, are working on the course as required, and are making sufficient progress. We check this via an internal admin account.
10.    What happens if I find a job while doing the course?
A job takes priority! If you find a new job while taking the course, the course will be terminated and any unemployment benefits paid by the Agentur für Arbeit / Job Center will be stopped. You can complete the course as a private student if you wish to do so.
11.    Is there an exam to pass at the end of the course?
There is no final exam to pass in order to finish the course. For each module, there are tasks to submit which need to be approved by your Mentor or Tutor. During the course, students work on a project that has to be developed by the end of the course. Once you have fully completed the course, you can download your personal certificate from the main dashboard.
12.    What happens once I have finished the course?
Once you have finished the UI Design Course or UX Design Course, you will be able to download your certificate via the dashboard. You will then need to complete the Job Preparation course and start working on your job search. CareerFoundry is responsible for informing the Agentur für Arbeit as soon as you have completed the course.
13.    How am I supported in my job search?
Once you are 51% of the way through the full program, you can sign up to the Job Preparation Course via your personal dashboard. The course consists of two Achievements, and you have up to one month (30 days) after you’ve completed the UX / UI Design Course to complete the Job Prep Course. Upon successful completion of the Job Prep Course within this timeframe, you can work with a dedicated Career Specialist for a further six months. They will give you the tools you need to start applying for a job in tech.
