Why choose the CareerFoundry UX Design Course?

Human-centric learning: the crucial difference between going through the motions vs. succeeding at a UX bootcamp.

Our curriculum team continually optimizes the course based on student feedback and in-depth research. This approach, together with our Dual Mentorship Model, ensures a highly personalized learning experience—tailored to your specific career goals.

Human-centric learning

Mentors and tutors

At CareerFoundry, the principles of UX design permeate everything we do.

Our aim is to become the most student-centric educational company on the planet. To achieve this, we strive to innovate within the field of edtech while remaining hyper-responsive to your feedback.

The way we approach mentorship is a perfect example of this. When we started out back in 2014, our mentorship model was very similar to that of other online bootcamps and academies — 1 mentor to 1 student. We quickly realised, however, that this simply wasn’t enough.

Our students needed a mixture of quick, regular feedback on their smaller exercise submissions and more detailed, in-depth feedback on their significant portfolio pieces. To accommodate our students’ needs, we split the role into two: the mentor and the tutor.

So what’s the difference?

A mentor is a senior UX designer with extensive, industry-shaping experience. Your mentor will conduct a video review of each portfolio piece you submit. Portfolio pieces go towards your professional UX portfolio, so this feedback is invaluable.

A tutor is a course expert who is there to answer your questions on a day-to-day basis, and provide actionable feedback on your tasks within 24 hours.

This Dual Mentorship Model has transformed our students’ results, and we haven’t looked back since.

Meet a mentor

"For the past 22 years, I have worked in enterprise software with a 20-year tenure in IBM as a UI/ UX Designer, then at Google as a Senior UX Designer, and now at PayPal as a Senior UX Designer. I love solving complex issues, but I find satisfaction in working with my teams and mentoring colleagues. The work is the work, but it is the people that make the difference."

Mentor Advisory Board

Our mentors receive comprehensive onboarding and coaching on how to mentor. Students are also encouraged to give regular feedback on their mentors and tutors throughout the course. This combination of feedback and coaching helps us to continually improve the quality of our mentoring. That’s why our UX mentors are rated 4.93/5 from over 4000 individual student reviews.

Job preparation and coaching

The Job Preparation course is included for free with your UX course and has been designed to help you with all aspects of finding a new job. Once you’ve opted into the Job Prep course, you’ll be assigned a career specialist. They will evaluate your job applications, help you strategize your job search, provide further advice on interview preparation, and help you to refine your LinkedIn profile and networking strategy.

The Job Prep course and your career specialist will help you with:

  • Developing a convincing narrative about your career change
  • Building a resumé and refining your portfolio to reflect your new skills
  • How to talk about CareerFoundry
  • How to optimize your LinkedIn profile
  • How to search for relevant jobs
  • How to write cover letters
  • How to network
  • How to plan for professional development

Even once you’ve found a job, the Career Services Team is happy to provide you with support throughout your transition to your new career.

Curriculum

Our UX Design Program was created following extensive research into the job market and an in-depth survey of industry professionals. The course is structured around the key skills you will need to succeed as a UX designer.

Rather than relying on third-party content, our curriculum is created exclusively in-house. We have a dedicated team of instructional designers and editors working in collaboration with leading UX designers who have experience from tech giants like Apple and Hewlett-Packard. Finally, the course is structured by instructional designers from Harvard and Berkeley (also part of our in-house team) to ensure the best possible learning experience.

The course is constantly updated to ensure it teaches the most relevant skills that employers are looking for.

Fully online with accountability

Pacing

We designed the program to be flexible and accommodate different schedules. The course is entirely online and there are no fixed times when you have to be present, so you can plan the time you dedicate to your course around other commitments—whether that be looking after your kids, looking after your family, or going to other classes.

Support

With your four-person team supporting you and our active UX community of fellow students and graduates, you’ll never feel alone or stuck on the course. Your mentor, tutor, and student advisor will encourage you to submit exercises consistently so that you stay on track and celebrate every step you take towards becoming a UX designer.
